The Toddster loves apple desserts some-more than anything else in the world.  If we wish to have him happy . . . all we have to do is to bake him a provide that includes apples in a little way.  He is a male with elementary tastes and values.  

Apparently his mother done the most appropriate apple pies on the face of the earth.  Unfortunately we never ever had the possibility to ambience them as she had upheld divided good prior to the Toddster and we met . . . though we have listened all about them.  we cannot have an apple cake similar to hers, though we can have a flattering meant Brown Betty!

Over in North America Brown Betty’s have been renouned apple desserts in the autumn. You can’t kick them. Tastily buttered bread crumbs layered with apples, sugarine and spice. It has a clear YUM factor, but an horrible lot of fat.

The bread crumbs get all crispy on the bottom and the top, and the center covering melts in to the apples and their honeyed juices, roughly assisting to thicken the mixture.

*Apple and Hazelnut Brown Betty*
Serves 6

This is only wonderful, simply smashing . . .

7 ounces uninformed wholemeal bread crumbs
(I used a seeded wholemeal loaf)
3 ounces butter, melted
100g hazelnuts, toasted and chopped
4 ounces caster sugar
1/2 tsp belligerent cinnamon
1/4 tsp creatively grated nutmeg
the grated liking of 1 lemon
the extract of half a lemon
2 pounds of in progress apples, peeled, cored and cut in to tiny chunks
1 TBS demerara sugarine to sprinkle
Vanilla ice cream, creme fraiche or custard to serve

Pre-heat the oven to 190*C/375*F. Butter a 1 1/2 litre oven plate and set aside.

Melt the butter. Mix the breadcrumbs and hazelnuts together in a bowl. Toss with the butter. Set aside.

Mix the chopped apple with the sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, lemon liking and the lemon juice.

Place 1/3 of the bread particle reduction in the bottom of the buttered baking dish. Top with half of the apples. Add an one more 1/3 of the breadcrumbs, trace them over the apples. Top with the last half of the apples, and shower the superfluous crumbs on top. Butter a square of aluminum foil and lay over top, sealing the edges.

Bake for thirty minutes. Remove the foil. Sprinkle with the demerara sugar. Bake for an one more twenty to twenty-five minutes, until the apples have been proposal and the tip is easily browned. Serve comfortable with creme fraiche, custard or ice cream.
